Festival
Celebrated in Bharatpur a few days prior to Holi (The Festival Of Colours),
the major attractions of this festival is songs, music and the Raslilas (The
Spiritual Dance that depicts the eternal love of Lord Krishna and Radha).
Shekhawati Festival
The festival takes place every year on 10th and 11th February. The venues
of the festival are spread over the different places namely; Navalgarh, Sikar,
Jhunjhunu and Churu. The festival provides the rare opportunity of getting closer
to the culture and people of the region. The programme include Camel and jeep
safaris, farm visits, cultural programmes, various contests between different
Havelis, fireworks and rural games. The festival is organised by the State Department
of Tourism and GDC Rural Research Foundation.
Desert Festival
Organised by Department of Tourism and RTDC, this delightful festival is
held during the month of Jan. and Feb. and lasts for three days. The festival
displays the unique culture of rajasthan and provides a good chance to come
close to the heritage and colourful people of this state. The important feature
of this festival is the traditional dances and the folk music. The most famous
among these are the Gair dance and the traditional Fire Dance.
Mewar Festival
This festival is held during the month of Sept. / Oct. This two day festival
is hosted in the town of Jodhpur and was originally known as "Maand Festival".
The venues for the celebrations are Umaid Bhawan Palace, Mehrangarh Fort and
Mandore. The festival provides a good opportunity to witness the dancers and
musicians of typical Mewar region. The other features are Camel Tattoo show
and game of Polo.
Kota Dussehra
The festival celebrates the victory of light over darkness. This festival
is marked by a glittering procession and display of attractive craft and culture
of rural Rajasthan. The festival lasts for about a fortnight during which 75
ft. of effigies of demons (Ravana, Kumbhkaran and Meghnath) are put to fire.
The festival also privides a great opportunity to experience the local trading
and performances of eminent artistes from all over the country.
