The Palace On Wheels* which starts from Delhi every Wednesday during winters,
covers the most exotic destinations of Rajasthan and then Bharatpur & Agra,
it is a complete package on full board basis and a wonderful way of discovering
India. Actually, it used to have the wagons used by erstwhile Maharajas of different
provinces, but after the conversion of narrow to broad guage tracks, now it
is a completely new train with airconditioners and modern amenities, however,
with the same traditional style of decor and the warm hospitality of Rajasthan.
This new train consists of 13 saloons with each saloon having 4 cabins with
attached toilets and bath. There are two restaurant saloons and a bar saloon.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 01 :
Delhi
/
Jaipur
Leave Delhi for Jaipur, dinner on board the train
Day 02 : Jaipur
Welcome by caparisoned elephants and musical shehnai, lunch at the famous Rambagh
Palace hotel, thence the city tour including Amer and Nahargarh Forts.
Day 03 : Jaipur / Chittaurgarh
Chittaurgarh & Udaipur - images of love and valour; scars of battles, that
is Chittaurgarh. After a brief visit, proceed to Udaipur, the city of lakes,
palaces and gardens. Lunch at the world famous Lake Palace hotel, thence enjoy
the tranquility of Lake Pichola, visit the City Palace.
Day 04 : Ranthambhore
Sawai Madhopur, the verdant landscape and the Ranthambor National Park of tigers,
the imposing ramparts of the fort.
Day
05 : Jaisalmer
Arrive at Jaisalmer and visit the exquistely carved Havelis and Palaces with
the latticed windows and balconies. Exper- ience the camel safaris and desert
camps and dine under the stars as the rhythm of Rajasthani music drifts into
the night.
Day 06 : Jodhpur
Arrive Jodhpur and visit the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort and Jaswant Thada and
thence lunch at the Umaid Bhavan Palace, the royal residence.
Day 07 : Bharatpur / Agra
Bharatpur and Agra, one famous for its bird sanctuary, a haven to about 300
types of migratory birds, and the other one for Taj Mahal and Red Fort. On way
also visit the Fatehpur Sikri and thence lunch at the Taj View hotel.
Day 08 : Delhi
Come morning and you are back in Delhi at the quaint Cantt railway station.
