The
village & the ancient mound of Chhat lies 1kms south east of Chandigarh-Patiala
road at 18km from Chandigarh. This site is situated on the right bank of river
Ghaggar. The river is also mentioned as Drishshvavti or Saraswati.In the ancient
India Puranic text, the mound has an area of 30 achres & about 18mts high.
there are evidences of Painted Grayware,the period of Mahabharta to Mediveal
period. The PGW greyware & contemprory Redwares,Kushan pits,Kushan baked
& unbaked brick structure, floor sandwitched within layers etc were noticed.
The excavation for the 1st time will reveal the planning,layout of the ancient
site indicating the pattern, standard of living,economic condition & religious
site of the Chhat, the excavation will reveal, which will begin Jan 2002 onwards.
