Is
situated 69 kms west & north west of Hyderabad,In Medak Distt of Andhra
pradesh.The site is located little away from Haydrabad-Sholapur National Highway.It
lies on the flood plains of Manjira River a tributory of Godavari.It has early
historic settlement enclosed by a rampart along with Buddhist remains of Maurayan
(4th-3rdcen BC) & Satavahana Period ( 1st cen AD). The earlier excavations
have brought to light Buddhist Stupas,Chaityas & Monestories. Besides a
rich collection of Buddhist antiquities were also found.
The fortified settlment of Kondapur is extreamly important in term of Histiorical
prospective & cultural sequence. The present season work will study the
archeological remains in stratigraphical prespective to find out the type of
settlements with in the rampart at various cultural levels. The next feild season
work at this site is likely to start in the month Dec 2001- Jan2002.
