India
is so vast that the climate conditions in the far north have little relation
to those of the extreme south. While the heat is buliding up to breaking point
on the plains, the people of Ladakh, high in the himalayas, will still we waiting
for the snow to melt on the high passes. Basically,India has a three season-the
hot,the wet and the cool.
People and the population : India has the second largest population in
the world, exceeded only by that of china. The present figure is 968 millon.
It is estimated that about 290 millon of the total population live in urban
areas, but with increasing industrialization the shift from village to city continues.
The Indian people are not a homogeneous group. It is quit easy to tell difference
between the shorter Bengalis of the east, the taller and lighter-skinned people
of the centre and north, the Kashmir's with there distinctly Central Asian appearances.
The Tibetan of people Ladakh, Sikkim and the north of Himachal Pradeh, and the
dark skinned Tamil of the south.
