Location: District Krishna (Gujrat) - Lat 16º 52'N, Long 80º 18 E

Gummadiduru is a small village about 9 kms. of the Madras railway station on Vijaywada Hyderabad railway line. The Buddhist establishment is located on the eastern spur of a hill, the lower portion of the main stupa with its drum is faced by a splendid array of sculptural slabs. One of these small stupa was enshrined in the apse of an apsidal chaitya griha. This is one of the very few Buddhist Centres of Andhra Pradesh which had a prolonged existence as is evident from the inscriptions found on the site. These inscriptions are dated from 2nd till 12th century AD. The drum of the main stupa has four projections facing the four cardinal directions. The drum is decorated as the Amaravati, with oblong slabs carved with figures. The drum depicts scenes from the life of Buddha and Jataka stories in large compartments. The decoration of the drum was probably completed by 3rd century AD as is evident from the inscription evidence dated to 3rd century AD. Just to the north east of the main stupa, there is a brick chaitya griha with its carved south eastern wall. The stupa within the shrine was faced with greenish limestone slabs beautifully carved in low belief with Buddhist motifs. This Buddhist site has one of the longest span of existence in Andhra Pradesh.
