: Is 13kms from Aurangabad, this has got magnificent hilltop fort , the main
fetures of the fort are Chand Mahal built in 1435 AD this structure is 60mts
high, Chini Mahal & a Cannon which is made up of different metals.
GRISHNESHWAR : Is a famous Hindu Pilgrim , the 18th century Grishneshwar
Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the 12 Jyotilingas in India.
ELLORA CAVES : Is 30kms from Aurangabad, this site is listed under the
World Heritage Site, in all there are 34 caves here out of which 17 are Hindu(dating
from 600 to 900AD), 12 Buddhist ( 600 to 800 AD ) and 5 are Jain caves ( 800
to 1000 AD) . The sculptures here depicts the influence of Tantric Cult in these
three religions, Although the complete site is a fine example of architecture
but most magnificent is the Kailash Temple ,this temple is dedicated to Lord
Shiva and is the world's largest monolithic sculpture,there are various other
sculptures at this temple such as Ravana lifting Mount Kailash and many depicting
the various scenes of Ramayana & Mahabharata. The temple was carved from
a single hill which the biulders began from the roof and then moved down to
the floor.
AJANTA CAVES : Are 166kms from Aurangabad, there are 29caves here which
are cut into the steep face of horse shoe shaped rock, this site is protected
as world Heritage Site and funded by UNESCO. these 29 buddhist caves dates back
from 200BC to 650AD, the caves are beutifully decorated with many remarkable
wall painting , although Ajanta is famous for its painting only there are many
sculptures here as well.
LONAR METEORITE CRATER : this place is famous for a huge meteorite crater
which is 40,000 years old, the crater is several mts dip and 2kms in diametre.
there are some temples at th floor of the crater as well.
