known as the Headquarter of the Tibetian Government in exile, the town has got
a busy bazaar and Kangra Art Museum which displays miniature paintings of art
school of Kangra, woodcarving and jewellery of tribal people.

NORBULINKA INSTITUTE : is 4kms from Dharamshala. The institute was established
to teach and preserve the traditional art of woodcarving, painting and embroidery.
McLEODGUNJ :- is now known as the actual headquarter of exlied Tibetian
Govt. The place is named after the Governor of Punjab David McLeod. This place
is the home of 14th Dalai Lama Tenzing Gyatso.
The main highlights are:
TIBETIAN INSTITUTE OF PERFORMING ARTS: Is established to preserve &
teach the art & culture of Tibet, the institute hold the three days festival
in the month of May.
DALAI LAMA PALACE :the palace is the most important Tibetian Buddhist
monument in India, the palace has got 3 magificiant statues of GURU PADAMSAMBHAVA,SHAKYAMUNI
& AVALOKITESHWARA, this place has also got some rare collection of sacred
text.
LIBRARY: this library has got great collection of manuscripsts out of
which 40% are the original ones.
TIBETAN MEDICAL & ASTROLOGICAL INSTITUTE: has got college at which
tibetan medicines & astrology is taught , this place has also got library,
research unit & a museum which displays the ingradients used in making Tibetian
Medicines.
The town has alot to offer such as DIP TSE-CHOK LING GOMPA, ST. JOHN IN THE
WILDERNESS,& SEVERAL GREAT WALKS.
Places around Mc LEOD GANJ :
BHAGSUNAG: Is just 2kms from Mc Leod Ganj ,it is a beatiful walk. this
place is famous for its ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva , a small spring
& its small waterfall.Few more kilometers form this place is Dal Lake &
beutiful Himalayan village of Dharamkot.
This area has also got a 8kms beutiful trek to Triund(2827mts) which is situated
at the foot of mighty DHAULADHAR.
