It
is tranquil lake with 52 ghats built around it. Situated just 13 km north west
of Ajmer. As per the Hindu legend Brahma the creator of the universe drop the
lotus flower from the sky and the lake was sprang in the midst of desert. The
place is declared holy with the believe that whoever will bathe in this lake
will be free from all of the sins.
Pushkar is one of the only two temples on the earth dedicated to Lord Brahma.
Apart from main Brahma temple there are more than 400 temple in and around Pushkar.
Among them the two more temples are dedicated to the wives of Lord Brahma -
Savitri and Gayatri. Out of the sacred ghats of Pushkar 3 ghats are most important
namely Gaughat,Brahmaghat and Varahaghat. The Pushkar become the center of activity
with Annual Camel Fair during Kartik Purnima.This fair is chiefly dedicated
to the bathing of well groomed camels,horses and other cattles. One get to see
the Rajasthan in best of its colors clothes,jewelry,pots etc. are displayed
and sold during the fair. There are several camel competitions and night fires
along with the melodious Rajasthani folk music,acrobatic performances by Nats.
In short the whole ambiance is overwhelming and out of this world where visitors
can enjoy in luxury tents.
