The Sun Temple
The
great temple of Konark is just 3 kms. from the coast and is protected as UNESCO
World Heritage. The temple was constructed in 13th Century AD and is believed
that the oriya king Narasimhadev, the 1st, built this landmark. The entire temple
is conceived as the chariot of Sun God standing on 24 gigantic stone carved
wheels pulled by 7 mighty horses. The immense structure is covered by sculpture,
figures, carvings but remarkably, it is not known that temple was ever completed
or not. The most impressive view of the in the evening when whole temple is
illuminated.
The other attractions of the town are NINE PLANET TEMPLE (the temple has got
nine images representing the nine planets), Archeological Museum & its BEACHES.
